Central Coast Mariners' Annalise Rasmussen Signs with Juventus
A-League star Annalise Rasmussen is leaving her home club for a new challenge in Europe, signing with Italian powerhouse Juventus. The 20-year-old striker has penned a deal that will keep her with the club until June 2028, marking a significant step in her career.
Rasmussen, who has scored 11 goals from 14 matches this season, is currently joint-top of the Golden Boot standings. Her talent has not gone unnoticed, with Juventus reaching out just last week to secure her services.
"We talked Wednesday, Thursday, and then I signed on Friday," Rasmussen shared. "When a big club comes along like that, it's hard to say no."
Rasmussen's journey with the Central Coast Mariners began at age 11 when she joined the club's Academy. She quickly rose through the ranks, becoming a key player for the team when they re-entered the women's A-League in 2023-24. Her impact was immediate, and she was a pivotal part of the Mariners' grand final victory over Melbourne Victory.
"The grand final was a highlight, especially considering the challenges we faced that year," Rasmussen reflected. "But my debut, that first away game against the Newcastle Jets, is a moment I'll always cherish."
Despite her emotional farewell, Rasmussen had her sights set on staying with the club. However, the opportunity to join Juventus was too good to pass up.
"I was keen to stay and finish my journey in the A-League," she said. "But these opportunities don't come around every day."
The Central Coast Mariners have a history of producing players who attract European interest. Lewis Miller, Alou Kuol, and Kye Rowles have all made the move to European leagues, and former coach Nick Montgomery now works as an assistant at Tottenham Hotspur.
The club's sporting director, Matt Simon, expressed pride in Rasmussen's achievement. "Our commitment to developing the next generation of Australian footballers is unwavering," he said. "This opportunity will continue to drive us to produce top-class players who represent the Mariners on the international stage."
As Rasmussen embarks on her new adventure, she plans to make the most of her time at Juventus. "It's a big club with a real professional setup," she noted. "I'm eager to learn and grow, and I'll be taking every opportunity to learn from the world-class players and coaches there."
Juventus itself praised Rasmussen's talent, stating, "Annalise represents the modern footballer: physically strong, willing to sacrifice, and with a keen eye for goal. Her impact at her former club was crucial."
While her focus is on Juventus for now, Rasmussen dreams of representing the Matildas on the international stage. With the Asian Cup on the horizon, her future is full of exciting possibilities.
